Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last Sunday 5th June our Church celebrated the great feast of Pentecost.  Pentecost was the time after Jesus had died, resurrected and had ascended into heaven and the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit had come upon them providing them with many gifts to go out into the world, to tell of the good news and to spread Jesus' message to love one another.   The feast of Pentecost affirms who we are as the Church - the People of God called to spread the good news far and wide of the mighty words and work of Jesus Christ.

Come, Holy Spirit, and make us Pentecost people.
Let your wisdom and right judgment guide our decisions
and temper our impulses.

Let knowledge and understanding increase our capacity for
empathy and compassion.

Let reverence and awe fill us with gratitude and respect for
all of creation.

Give us the courage to witness boldly to our faith in word and deed.

Through and with and in Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen.

Parent Engagement
Over the past weeks we have begun to find ways to re-engage with the parent community of St Thomas More School.  Events such as the Holy Week liturgy, Mother’s Day liturgy and ‘Coffee and Conversations’ have seen many parents in attendance.  Engaging with the parent community is a very important part of our work as the community of St Thomas More.  St Thomas More School is now seeking feedback from all parents in regards to the way in which the school engages with you.  We would like to know what has worked well in the past, what is working well now and what we could possibly do in the future in working in partnership with parents.  A short electronic survey has been compiled for you to complete.  It should only take 5-10 minutes of your time.  Please access this link to complete the survey.   https://forms.gle/XbSYDA6jrYyJ7wfL7

Reminders about completing the survey will also be sent out via Compass.  We want to hear from as many parents as possible.

Grade Liturgy
As stated in previous newsletters, parents have been invited to a ‘Coffee and Conversation’ session after their child’s grade liturgy this term. Thank you to those parents who have been able to participate in this over the past weeks.  As the children in Year 1 are celebrating their Term 2 liturgy in St Thomas More Church this week the ‘Coffee and Conversation’ session for Year 1 parents will be held straight after morning assembly next Tuesday 14th June in our School Hall.  Monday 13th June is a public holiday and our weekly assembly will occur next Tuesday followed by ‘Coffee and Conversations’.  Please note that a ‘Coffee and Conversations' session will also occur after the Year 2 liturgy on Friday 17th June and after the Year 5 liturgy on Friday 24th June.

School Athletics Carnival
Our annual School Athletics Carnival will be held on the last day of term 2, Friday 1st July 2022.  Details and a permission note will be sent home in the coming days via Compass.  We are looking forward to a great day of sport and fun.

Blue Awards
Congratulations to Georgia Year 2, Oscar Year 2, Christopher Year 6 and Isiah Year 6 on receiving a Blue Award.

Parent and Teacher Interviews
Parent and teacher interviews will be occurring in Week 10 Term 2, with Tuesday afternoon 28/6/22 being the main afternoon and evening for parent and teacher interviews.  Details will be sent out via Compass in the coming weeks so that parents can book a time to meet with their child's class teacher.

Kindergarten 2023 Enrolment Interviews
If you are aware of any families in our community who are looking to enrol in a great Catholic School please advise them to complete an enrolment application as soon as possible.

Late Arrivals
There is quite a large number of students in our school who are regularly late to school each day.  Parents and carers are reminded that school officially starts at 8.30am each morning.  It is understandable that on the odd occasion something may occur to prevent you from being at school on time, however a regular late arrival is very disruptive to the learning of all classes.  This year in 2022 we have reduced our morning assembly to only occur on Mondays with the aim of getting the children into class as soon as possible each morning after the 8.30am bell has sounded so that learning may commence.  Thank you to the students and families who are always at school and on time to commence their learning each and every day, 5 days a week.
