Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

This weekend we remember all mums, grandmothers, aunts and female carers on Mother’s Day.   May is the special month in the Catholic tradition devoted to Mary, our mother.  There is no coincidence that Mother’s Day is also celebrated within the month of May.  Through the intercession of our Mother in heaven, we will pray for all the special female carers in our lives, those who are still with us and those who have gone before us and those who care for us and love us.

The annual STM Mother’s Day stall will be held on Friday 12th May.  Please send your child to school with money to purchase a gift for mum or a female carer. Many thanks to Mrs Kemps and Mrs Tabone and their helpers who have organised the Mother’s Day stall for all of the children in our school.   Mums, carers and parents are invited to a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea commencing at 1.00pm in our School Hall.  This will be for adults (and toddlers only).  Thank you to the 2023 STM P&F Executive for organising this event for our community.  Afternoon tea will be followed by a very special Mother’s Day liturgy with the whole school at 2.00pm.

Term 2 Uniform
From next Monday 15th May (Week 4) all children will be expected to be in their Winter uniform.

Open Parachute
Recently all classes at St Thomas More School have undertaken a new program called “Open Parachute” as part of the PDHPE curriculum.  This program assists the learning and teaching programs focused on student wellbeing and Social and Emotional learning.  Open Parachute covers topics such as:

  • Friendship
  • Bullying
  • Self esteem
  • School stress
  • Social media

A parent information session is being conducted on Monday 5th June from 6.30pm-7.00pm for any parent wishing to hear more about this program.  The P&F meeting will follow at 7.00pm.  Both meetings will be conducted in the school library.

Dismissal
Thank you to all parents and carers who consistently abide by the road rules and school expectations involved in our school dismissal each afternoon.  Parents are reminded that it is illegal to stop in St Johns Road and block the road while waiting for the internal road to clear.  If the internal road is full of cars and you cannot enter the internal road please continue along St Johns Road and turn around in the roundabout.  Police and council rangers have been patrolling the area.  All staff are on duty each afternoon to assist the children into the cars efficiently and as quickly as possible.  Parents are asked to assist in our procedures by abiding by the road laws.

Enrolling now for 2024
If you have a child who is to start Kindergarten in 2024, please collect an enrolment form from the School Office or download a form from the St Thomas More School website https://www.stmdow.catholic.edu.au/  We ask everyone in our community to promote our school.  Families enrolling in our school assist us to maintain our enrolment numbers so as to operate each day as a two stream school (two classes in every grade).  We have so much to offer.  Please spread the word about our great school.  Siblings are also required to collect and submit a complete enrolment form.

Best wishes for the coming week,

Philip Barrington
