Lent

We are now in the Liturgical Season of Lent, which began on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a season to prepare for the celebration of Christ's death and Resurrection at Easter. It is a time of penance, praying, fasting, and giving alms.

During the week, our students marked the beginning of this season by receiving ashes on their forehead, a symbol that we are now entering a time for repentance and growth. Our primary students joined the parish for Mass on Ash Wednesday, while our infants students participated in a Liturgy led by our friends from St. Patrick’s College for girls. Thank you to the ladies from the Mission team who led the liturgy.

Each year, Ash Wednesday also marks the official beginning of Caritas’ Project Compassion campaign. On Tuesday, our School Captains, Levi and Matilda, joined Bishop Brian and other student leaders from around the diocese at the 2025 launch of Project Compassion. This year, Project Compassion is asking us to “unite against poverty”, helping less fortunate communities around the world. Each classroom has a Project Compassion box. We are encouraging the students to do “good deeds” at home to raise money to donate to the class Project Compassion Box.

The St Thomas More community has a great tradition in supporting the Project Compassion campaign. This year we began raising money for Project Compassion with a Pancake Breakfast. Thank you to all our families who supported this fundraiser. The money raised during this event, as well as money collected in class boxes, will go towards Caritas’ work in less fortunate countries around the wall. Mrs Vella has challenged the students that if we can raise $500 as a school, we will have a mufti day at the end of the term!
