Dear Parents and Carers,
This Sunday our Church celebrates the feast of Pentecost. Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem. Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Church. At the first Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles which enabled them to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit continues to touch us in many ways and sometimes through the most surprising means. Whenever we are reminded about the beauty of creation, another person’s kindness or a sense of deep peace, we are receiving the Holy Spirit. Our hearts and minds need to be open to the power of Pentecost in every moment. Some of the Year 6 students in our school and parish are currently preparing to receive the Holy Spirit through the sacrament of Confirmation. At their Confirmation the candidates will be filled with gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let us continue to pray for our students and families at this special time.
Reconciliation Week
This Sunday also commences Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Week occurs each year from 27 May - 3 June and is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories , cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The 2023 theme is “Be A Voice For Generations”. This year’s theme encourages all to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives - where we live, work and socialise. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Semester 1 Parent / Teacher Interviews
During Week 10, Semester 1 parent/teacher interviews will be conducted. You will soon be able to book through Compass a time with your child’s teacher for the interview. All children in Years 1-6 are encouraged to attend the interview with their parents, making it a parent/child/teacher interview. This provides an opportunity for an open conversation between parents, child and teacher in regards to the learning achievements and needs of the student. We understand that all students may not be able to attend the interview for a variety of reasons, but their attendance is highly encouraged. Semester 1 reports will be sent home on Friday 23rd June.
Open Parachute
A parent information session is being conducted on Monday 5th June from 6.30pm-7.00pm for any parent wishing to hear more about the ‘Open Parachute’ program. This program focuses on student wellbeing and social and emotional learning. The P&F meeting will follow at 7.00pm. Both meetings will be conducted in the school library.
