Dear Parents and Carers,
Recently we celebrated the great feast of Pentecost in our Church. Pentecost is the time when we remember the very first coming of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles. We remember that the Apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit and went out to spread the Good News to all people. The Holy Spirit continues to touch us in many ways and sometimes through the most surprising means. Whenever we are reminded about the beauty of creation, another person’s kindness or a sense of deep peace, we are receiving the Holy Spirit. Our hearts and minds need to be open to the power of Pentecost in every moment.
Let us remember the Year 6 students who are currently preparing to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit through the sacrament of Confirmation.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated each year from 27th May to 3rd June. It is a time to celebrate and build on positive and respectful relationships and connections between Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Reconciliation involves building positive, respectful relationships between all Australians and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It helps to create a positive change and to help Australians learn about their shared
histories, cultures and achievements. Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders have faced many challenges and inequality over the years. These things have prevented them from reaching their potential. Being able to reconcile with them will lead to respect and better relationships and partnerships.
Almighty and loving God,
you who created all people in your image,
Lead us to seek your compassion as we
listen to the stories of our past.
You gave your only Son, Jesus, who died and
rose again so that sins will be forgiven.
We place before you the pain and anguish of
dispossession of land, language, lore, culture
and family kinship that Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander peoples have experienced.
We live in faith that all people will rise from
the depths of despair and hopelessness.
Touch the hearts of the broken, homeless and inflicted and heal their spirits.
In your mercy and compassion walk with us as we continue our journey of healing to
create a future that is just and equal.
Lord, you are our hope. Amen
Semester 1 Parent / Teacher Interviews
During Week 10, Semester 1 parent/teacher interviews will be conducted. You will soon be able to book through Compass a time with your child’s teacher for the interview. All children in Years 1-6 are encouraged to attend the interview with their parents, making it a parent/child/teacher interview. This provides an opportunity for an open conversation between parents, child and teacher in regards to the learning achievements and needs of the student. We understand that all students may not be able to attend the interview for a variety of reasons, but their attendance is highly encouraged. Semester 1 reports will be sent out via Compass on Friday 28th June.
Celebration of Learning
Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to attend the Stage 3 Liturgy and Celebration of Learning last week. A large number of parents gathered with the students to pray and then spent time in Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms. The Stage 2 Celebration of Learning is being held on Thursday 6th June 8.30am-9.30am and the Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 Celebration of Learning will occur on Thursday 27th June 8.30am-9.30am.
Afternoon Dismissal
Thanks to those parents and carers who are abiding by the road rules and not blocking St Johns Road during afternoon pick up. We seem to have some good days and not so good days. Police and Council Rangers are constantly monitoring this area. We encourage all families to stagger their pick up time between 2.40pm and 3.00pm. Your children are safe in the care of teachers until you arrive to collect them. A reminder to all parents and carers who collect their child from the Undercover Area to please walk into the school playground to the Undercover Area to collect your child. Children are not permitted to leave the Undercover Area when called to the gate by parents. A huge thank you to the staff of our school for their hard work and care of the children each afternoon.
