Dear Parents and Carers,
Let us remember to pray for the Year 6 students who are currently preparing to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit through the sacrament of Confirmation this coming Friday. Bishop Brian Mascrod will confer the sacrament upon the students in our school and parish.
Why Do Catholics Choose Confirmation Saints?
As we go through our sacramental preparation for Confirmation, Confirmation saints are chosen to be a person we want to be like, as well as someone who can pray for us from heaven. Through the process of canonization, when someone is declared by the Church to be a saint, the Church is proclaiming that this member of the faithful practised heroic virtue during their life on earth, ‘the Church recognizes the power of the Spirit of holiness within her and sustains the hope of believers by proposing the saints to them as models and intercessors’. To aspire to be like a saint is the same as trying to imitate an actor, musician, or athlete; a confirmation saint is someone cool who we want to be like! You may have a famous actor, musician, or athlete that you really admire for their talent and skill. What many people don’t realise is that there are good people to look up to within our Church, for us to try to be like as well. You can’t call up a famous person you want to be like and ask them for help, but your Confirmation saint is someone who you can talk to whenever you need them and they will always have your back!
Some of the saints that our Year 6 students have chosen this year include: St Catherine, St Lucy, St Elizabeth, St Joseph, St Ethelreda, St Francis and St Mary MacKillop.

Mufti Day for STM Fete
Thank you to all students who participated in the recent mufti day fundraiser to assist with the upcoming St Thomas More School Fete. $608.30 was raised.
School Disco
Thank you to the STM P&F Association for organising the recent School Disco. The two sessions were well attended by the STM students. All the children in attendance had a great time. It was a great end to the school's celebration day of the feast of Saint Thomas More.
Semester 1 Parent / Teacher Interviews
A reminder that next week that all classes will be involved in Semester 1 parent/teacher interviews. We thank the staff for all their efforts in compiling the Semester 1 reports and making themselves available to meet with parents and children to discuss the Semester 1 reports. All parent/teacher interviews can now be booked via Compass Conferences. Please note that bookings will close at 9.00pm on Sunday 30th June 2024, in readiness for the week ahead. All children are encouraged to attend the interview with their parents, making it a parent/child/teacher interview. This provides an opportunity for an open conversation between parents, child and teacher in regards to the learning achievements and needs of the student. We understand that all students may not be able to attend the interview for a variety of reasons, but their attendance is highly encouraged. Semester 1 reports will be sent out via Compass on Friday 28th June.
Golden Assembly
Congratulations to our latest two Gold Award achievers who were acknowledged at our recent Golden Assembly. Congratulations Georgia in Year 4 and Bodhi in Year 3.
Celebration of Learning
A reminder that tomorrow 27th June 8.30am-9.30am that parents and carers are invited to attend the Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 Liturgy and Celebration of Learning. Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will participate in the whole school assembly, followed by a prayer liturgy in the Hall, followed by a visit to the classrooms.
Thank You
As this is the last newsletter for Term 2 it is an opportune time to say thank you to everyone for another great term of learning. Thank you to the hard working students, who for the majority, have been dedicated to their learning goals and tried very hard with their school work. Thank you to the wonderful St Thomas More staff who work tirelessly in catering for the needs and providing many opportunities for the children. The staff have been extremely supportive of the school particularly in recent weeks with writing reports, preparing for interviews, organising feast day celebrations, Celebration of Learning, athletics carnival, Confirmation sacramental program as well as maintaining teaching and learning programs in the classrooms each day. Thank you also to the parents and carers of our students who support us in so many ways - through your communication and attendance at events and through your support of what we do best - educating your children. It is hoped that the entire community can look forward to the coming Winter holidays with an opportunity to step back, rest and relax and to hopefully be rid of the many sicknesses and illnesses that have affected so many in our community in recent weeks.
Best wishes for the coming holiday break (at the end of next week),
Philip Barrington
