Dear Parents and Carers,
A huge Thank You to all in the St Thomas School and Parish community for all your hard work, efforts and support of the 2024 St Thomas More Fete. We were certainly blessed with beautiful weather which ensured a great was had by all who were able to attend. There was great community spirit evident in our school grounds with everyone enjoying each other's company and all that was on offer for them. Our gratitude and thanks go to Mrs Katherine Willis and Mrs Amelia Williams for all of their hard work as the 2024 Fete Coordintors. We acknowledge all of their time given in co-ordinating our Fete and we thank the Willis and Wiliams families for allowing our school Fete preparations to take over their family time for the past weeks and months. We say thank you to all parents, carers and relatives who worked on stalls, donated goods, made things, bought raffle tickets and spent money at the Fete. A huge thank you to the wonderful staff of St Thomas More School for their support of the Fete over many weeks and for the hours they spent working on stalls to assist the volunteers. We also thank the St Thomas More P&F Association for their support and assistance with the Fete. Thank you to the entire St Thomas More community for all that contributed to the success of the day. Expenses are currently being finalised and we hope soon to be able to state in monetary terms the success of our day which ultimately supports and provides valuable funds for our school which will be put towards school resources.

Reading is Magic! Book Week 2024
On Thursday 22nd August parents and carers are invited to the 2024 STM Book Week parade. It is a tradition at St Thomas More School to celebrate reading with a Book Week parade every second year. All children are asked to come to school dressed as a character from a book - any book. Children are not expected to purchase a costume but are encouraged to be creative in their choice of character and what they wear. We will commence our day with a parade around our playground in which parents and carers are invited to attend. The parade will commence as soon as the bell goes 8.30am - late comers to school will miss the parade! The students will then be engaged in further Book Week and reading activities throughout the day.
Late to School / Absenteeism
Thank you to all families in our school who have made a conscious effort of being on time for school each day. The number of children who arrive late for school each day is still a concern. School starts officially at 8.30am. Class rolls are taken as soon as classes enter their rooms to commence learning for the day. Thank you to those students and families who are regularly on time for school, ready to learn from the beginning of the school day. In the coming weeks, our school will be conducting a thorough analysis of the number of days each student is absent from school. Each day at school is an important day of learning. Letters will be sent home via Compass to parents stating to those who need to improve in this area.
Father’s Day Celebrations
Friday 30th August, all dads, parents, father figures and carers are invited to a bbq breakfast in the school grounds, provided by the P&F Association. More details will be provided soon about the start time and the food that will be served. When the bell goes at 8.30am, the breakfast will be followed by a short prayer assembly to celebrate Father’s Day.
Jersey Day
Each year St Thomas More School recognises and raises awareness of the importance of organ donation through participation in Jersey Day. In keeping with the success of last year we will again celebrate Jersey Day with our Father’s Day celebrations. Children are permitted to wear a jersey and mufti clothes to school on Friday 30th August. Children who do not own a jersey may wear mufti clothes in the colours of their favourite teams. No money donation will be collected as this is an awareness raising day.
Best wishes for the coming week,
Philip Barrington
