Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week is Holy Week, where Christians worldwide remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We too, at St Thomas More Catholic Primary School have been reflecting and praying about these events. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Holy Saturday.
Palm Sunday (Passion Sunday):
The sixth Sunday of Lent honours the welcoming of Jesus into Jerusalem. He rode into the city on a donkey. The crowds that gathered waved palm branches and said, "Hosanna! Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord." Jesus riding on a donkey represents His humility.
Holy Thursday:
This day commemorates Jesus' Last Supper with His twelve disciples. The first Holy Communion was celebrated. Jesus said “Do this in memory of me”.
Good Friday:
This day of sorrow commemorates the arrest, trial, crucifixion, death and burial of Jesus Christ, Son of God. He suffered and died on the cross to redeem all sinners.
Holy Saturday:
On the seventh and final day of Holy Week, Jesus rested in the tomb. It is a quiet day of meditation. The Vigil service reflects on the retelling of the salvation story from Genesis to Jesus. This is traditionally a day for baptism.
Easter Sunday:
This is the day of rejoicing because Jesus rose from the dead and conquered death once and for all. On this day we celebrate the joy and hope Easter morning represents to Christians all over the world when we proclaim: “Alleluia! Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed! Alleluia!”
May the peace of the risen Lord be with all families of the St Thomas More community during this Easter season.
Thank you for a busy and wonderful Term 1 2022. By all accounts most children in our school have worked very hard and have made a great effort with their work and their learning this term, despite the many challenges and interruptions due to sickness and extreme weather. St Thomas More School has survived ten weeks of face to face learning and teaching despite a few challenges along the way. Thank you to the hard working staff for all of their efforts in caring for the children and being focussed on the learning needs of the students. A huge thank you to those parents for your support of the school as you too cope with sickness, weather and family life. The school's role is to work with you, communicate with you and support you in the education of your children. In planning for Term 2 we have another busy term ahead of us. We have planned many opportunities for quality learning and teaching, Semester 1 reports, the school athletics carnival, Reconciliation sacramental program, NAPLAN, School Photo Day and St Thomas More Feast Day, which are just some of the activities planned for Term 2. Please ensure that all students and parents have the opportunity to rest and recharge the body over these coming holidays so that we are all ready for another great term ahead.
Farewell Mrs Hogan
On Friday 8/4/22 we say farewell and thank you to Mrs Hogan. Mrs Hogan has been part of the St Thomas More community for the past nine years. We wish her the best of luck in her new position at St Anthony of Padua Catholic College Austral. We welcome Miss Rachel Nies as the new teacher of Year 1 Gold for the remainder of the year.
Term 2 School Uniform
Students return to school for Term 2 on Wednesday 27th April 2022. For the first two weeks of Term 2 parents may decide as to whether they send their child to school in their Summer or Winter uniform. However from Monday 9th May all children must be in their Winter uniform. School Photo Day is planned for Wednesday 29th June (Week 10 Term 2). School uniform will be worn on the day. No sports uniform. More details about School Photo Day will be provided throughout Term 2. A huge thank you to Mrs Sue Cameron for her work in coordinating the second hand uniform shop. The shop will reopen next term.
ANZAC Day March Campbelltown
A reminder that those children representing our school in the ANZAC Day March along Queen Street are required to meet Mr Barrington, Mrs McGarrity and staff outside the Commonwealth Bank at 8.10am on Monday 25th April. All children must be dressed in their full Summer uniform to participate in the march with our school. Please see the event in Compass for more information and if you are interested for your child to attend.
Cross Country 2022
A huge congratulations to all children who participated and competed in the Cross Country races. We were disappointed last Friday due to the wet weather, but the sun shone brightly on Monday morning and the races were run. In the coming days a school team will be announced that will represent St Thomas More School in Nowra.
STM Mother’s Day Stall
Each year we hold a Mother's Day Stall and a Father’s Day Stall. This is a small way in which the children have the opportunity to purchase a gift for their mother, father or carer. For the past number of years Mrs Sarah Ellis-Donai and Mrs Louise Labib have coordinated this stall for our school. They have also been assisted by parent helpers on the day of the stall. This year is Sarah and Louise’s last year for coordinating the stall. We are now seeking some parents to take on this role for 2023. With our 2022 Mother’s Day Stall occurring early next term on Friday 6th May, now is the time to volunteer and learn what is involved. If you are interested in assisting in the 2022 Mother’s Day Stall and/or interested in coordinating the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls in the future, please contact the school office to leave your name and someone will be in contact with you.
