Dear Parents and Carers,
One cannot but become caught up in all of the media coverage of the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. For 70 years Queen Elizabeth has been a most significant leader of England, the Commonwealth (of which Australia is included) and a leader across the world. It is during this time of her death that we can reflect on her great and long life and the human qualities which she brought and shared with the world. Her qualities of loyalty to her role, love for her family and calmness in times of need can all be admired. At times like this we too, can reflect on our own lives and the qualities that we individually possess.
What do others say about the qualities that you possess?
What qualities will you be remembered for?
Will the qualities that others say about you be similar to those of Queen Elizabeth II or qualities like truth and love that we associate with Saint Thomas More? Will people that know you, state that you are a nice person and that you always thought of others? The way in which we respond to each other and the way we live our lives now, become our legacy and the things that we will be remembered for in the future. What do you wish to be remembered for?
School Disco 2022
Thank you to the families in our school who supported the school disco last week. Over one hundred students attended each disco session. Congratulations to all children for their excellent behaviour. It was great to see the children having so much fun and great to note that no-one had lost their dancing skills due to not having a school disco in recent years. Thank you to the parent helpers who assisted the staff on the night.
Catholic Mission Launch
Yesterday (Tuesday 13th September) St Thomas More School and parish hosted the launch of Catholic Mission 2022 for the Diocese of Wollongong. October is traditionally Mission Month. Who are Catholic Mission in Australia?
As the Pope’s international mission agency, we respond to the call to love God and to love our neighbour by forming individuals and communities as missionary disciples of Jesus who share their faith in action and through prayer. We share in God’s mission to reach out, give life by sharing our personal and financial resources to: - proclaim the Gospel, - serve people in need, - act for peace, justice and creation; In partnership with local churches, so that all may have life in Christ.

Often the work of Catholic Mission is focused on raising awareness and funds for people in need. The focus of Mission Month in 2022 is Ethiopia, where schools and parishes are encouraged to raise funds to support the needy people in this part of the world. As part of the Catholic Mission launch, representatives from all Catholic Schools across the Wollongong diocese were present. Bishop Brian led the liturgy and the St Thomas More students representing our school were magnificent hosts.
