Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we celebrate two very important feasts in the life of our Church: All Saints Day (1st November) and All Souls Day (2nd November). On All Saints Day the church celebrates all of the saints in God’s kingdom, the famous and the not so famous. Some have been officially canonised by the Church and many others have lived saintly lives doing great things for others and for God. St Thomas More, pray for us. St Mary of the Cross, pray for us.
On All Souls Day we remember in a special way, all those who have died. We believe that all who have died in Jesus will rise again with Him. May all souls rest in peace, especially those loved ones in our families who have gone before us.
Year 6 Visit to Canberra
STM Ruse says “Long Live The King!”
Monday 21st October 2024 will be remembered forever by the Year 6 students and teachers at St Thomas More Catholic Parish Primary School Ruse.
Forty two students and six staff members were fortunate to meet and converse with His Majesty King Charles III. Twenty eight Year 6 students and one principal shook the monarch’s hand and engaged in conversation with King Charles. King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Honourable Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, met and greeted a crowd of students and guests in the foyer of Australia’s Parliament House in Canberra.
St Thomas More School students such as Emily and Eva informed King Charles that they were from “St Thomas More School Ruse which is in Campbelltown”. King Charles then asked the girls “how did they get to Parliament House today?”
As King Charles walked along the line of students, Mr Barrington then spoke to the monarch by saying “Welcome Your Majesty.” To which King Charles replied while shaking Mr Barrington’s hand “Are you a teacher?” Mr Barrington replied that he “was the proud principal of these students.” Mr Barrington continued to explain to King Charles that the students and he were from “St Thomas More School Ruse which is located in south west Sydney.” Mr Barrington explained to King Charles that the students left school at 6.30am in the morning to be present at Parliament House. King Charles replied with words like “that is very good of you”. Mr Barrington said “thank you Your Majesty for making our visit today to Parliament House so special”.
Background:
As part of the HSIE: History curriculum, the students in Stage 3 at St Thomas More School study “Australia As A Nation” which is accompanied with an excursion to Australia’s national capital, Canberra, with the main purpose to visit Australia’s Parliament House. After twelve months of planning and securing venues and not necessarily being able to receive the school’s first preferences for dates and times with what was being planned, St Thomas More School booked two full days of activities in Canberra for 21/22 October 2024. Just by chance and extreme good luck and fortune, the Year 6 two day excursion contained a booking for a visit to Australia’s Parliament House from 12.00midday to 2.00pm, which consequently was the time planned for a visit by the reigning sovereign King Charles III and Queen Camilla. St Thomas More School students were booked for a visit to the Parliamentary Education Centre at 12.00midday and then for a tour of Parliament House at 1:00pm.
A representative from Parliament House phoned Mr Barrington and Mr McCormack (Year 6 teacher organising the Canberra excursion) and asked whether the students of St Thomas More School Ruse would like to be part of the group that will wave goodbye to King Charles and Queen Camilla at approximately 1:45pm on Monday 21st October 2024. Without hesitation, Mr Barrington and Mr McCormack replied with a very firm “yes”.
Mr Barrington and the staff are very proud of the Year 6 students and the way they represented their school at such an important occasion. The St Thomas More School students excelled in every way; displaying respect for the monarch as well as being proud advocates and representatives of their school.
This day, this event, this Year 6 excursion to Canberra exceeded all of the hopes and expectations of St Thomas More School.
These memories will last forever.
Long Live The King!
PACER - Parliament and Civics Education Rebate
Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $30.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Grandparents Day
St Thomas More School celebrated Grandparents and Grandfriends last Friday 25th October. This was a great day where we gathered as a Catholic community to pray and give thanks for the grandparents in our lives and then we were able to share and participate in the school learning environment. It was an amazing experience to witness the entire community engaged in a reading session - children (big and small), parents, grandparents and grandfriends engaged in reading stories and books. The children of St Thomas More School were very proud to share their learning and work with their special visitors. A huge thank you to Year 2 for leading us in a special liturgy and to Mrs Loomes and her helpers in the Canteen for providing morning tea.
Classes 2025
Term 4 is the time when we complete the 2024 school year as well as prepare for 2025. One of the major tasks this term is to prepare classes for 2025. Teachers and staff members use their professional expertise in making decisions, seeking to create equitable class groupings considering all students. All classes/grades will be regrouped for 2025.
Optimising the learning environment is the prime focus when forming new class groups for 2025, not forming friendship groups. The aim is to provide classes in which each child is able to continue to develop to their full potential.
If there is a particular issue regarding your child’s learning for 2024, please write to Mr Barrington, via email, stating your concerns and requests. You are invited to be proactive rather than reactive. Please note that this is not an opportunity to request individual teachers, but an opportunity to state a particular issue that might impact on your child’s learning in 2025. All requests will be considered but NOT NECESSARILY GUARANTEED. Please send your email requests to info@stmdow.catholic.edu.au marked to the attention of Mr Barrington by Friday 8th November 2024. Further requests regarding class placement will not take place after this date. Please note that because we are committed to the belief that each child begins each school year anew, we do not retain information regarding these requests from previous years.
This is the time to raise any issues regarding your child’s learning for 2024. After all requests have been considered the school will make the final decision regarding all placements.
If your child is not returning to St Thomas More Catholic Parish Primary School Ruse in 2025, could you please notify the School Office as soon as possible. There is a ‘School Leavers’ form that needs to be completed.

Should you have a remaining balance which won't be finalised before the end of year please contact our school office for a confidential conversation to reach a payment agreement. Year 6 leavers may have their student iPad held at school should the fee account not be finalised due to non payment or agreements not met.
Thank you to the families who have met their fee commitment during the year and paid the year fees.
2025 fees will be billed during January 2025 and are due payable within 30 days or to be paid by instalments during the same school year.
